On your doorstep - Runswick Bay beach can be reached directly by road or footpaths through the fields. There are pubs and tearooms/cafes at the top and bottom of the bay. Fabulous sandy beach with the added attraction of rock pools and fossils.

Staithes is a cliff top walk away with stunning views, or a regular bus service takes you there in minutes. Wonderful old fishing village around a harbour. Plenty of places to eat, galleries, museum, shops or just take in the atmosphere.
Shopping
Runswick Bay
Whitby is the nearest town for gifts and general supplies. Hinderwell has a good butcher. Emergency supplies - Staithes Coop or Lythe General Store and Post Office.
Getting Around
There is no need to use your car in Runswick Bay, there is a regular bus service (X4) which runs south to Whitby and Sandsend, and north to Staithes, Saltburn and Middlesbrough. There are numerous walks including the Cleveland Way.

Everyone likes something different but I love the Cod and Lobster in Staithes and the Fisherman's Wife in Whitby. There are also pubs with food in Runswick Bay and nearby Ellerby and Hinderwell.

Where to start - locally Whitby for so many reasons, Danby Moors National Park Centre and Inspired Gallery, Saltburn, Skinningrove, North Yorkshire Moors Railway, Robin Hood's Bay. Further afield York and Scarborough.

We have had the most wondeful time staying in this very cosy and beautifully decorated cabin. We had wonderful days out walking along the coastline and visiting Staithes, Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay and Goathland but it was always a pleasure to return to Stowaway.

Hello
Hi my name is Kit and I'm a ceramicist. I work from my studio in the garden next to Stowaway.
Fascinated by clay in its multitude of colours and textures, I am inspired by the sea and land formations. My work is sometimes functional, often sculptural but always visually exciting. The processes mean all my work is as individual as a fingerprint.
